Modifications
Texas family law provides a relatively straightforward process for seeking a modification of existing orders governing child support, as well as child custody and visitation. Modifications are generally granted in cases where the underlying circumstances of the parents or a child have changed substantially such that the requested modification is in the best interest of the child.
Child custody modifications are often more difficult to obtain due to the courts’ general reticence to alter the child’s living arrangements without serious cause. It can be difficult to understand whether a situation requires a formal child custody modification without the sound legal advice of an experienced lawyer.
It may be appropriate to modify support if either parent’s financial or employment situation has changed dramatically or if the child has unexpected educational or health care needs.
